Hester Buell papers circa 1940s and 1979-1987

This collection contains the many poems and other writings of Tescott, Kansas librarian Hester Buell (1900-1993), which include her remembrances and memorabilia of her brother Harold and sister Helen. Within the collection correspondence are Miss Buell's letters from Wint Smith (U.S. Congressman from Kansas, 1947-1961).

Hester Elizabeth Buell was born February 1, 1900 at Blue Rapids, Kansas to Ernest and Virgie (Foose) Buell. The family lived in Ottawa County, Kansas in Hester's early years and then moved to Glascow, Missouri, where Hester graduated from high school. Hester attended the Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and the University of Missouri. In 1933, she earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas.
